Sometimes all it takes is one little change in your house, like moving a piece of furniture or purchasing a new coffee table to make you want to change everything. That one decision can have a snowball effect. This project began as a Master Bathroom renovation and turned into so much more. In order to transform the existing Closet and existing Master Bathroom into a more desirable space we extended the bathroom wall by one foot. Those twelve inches taken from the bedroom lead to new paint, wallpaper, bedding, custom pillows and window treatments, better lighting, new bedside tables for added storage, a beautiful new carpet, and a brand new 55″ OLED television with a picture and sound system that would put movie theaters to shame.
The Master Bathroom was a complete renovation from the beginning. Once the floor plans were finished that extra foot of space from the bedroom allowed for a double vanity with a custom Glassos countertop, a small 1/2 wall for privacy next to the toilet, a heated towel rack, and a more sizable shower with custom niches to accommodate shampoo & conditioner bottles, etc. The shower was designed with handmade ceramic shower tiles in three different textures, sizes, and colors to give it a sense of depth and interest. All of this was done with a white grout to accentuate the beautiful detail of the tile.
The bathroom floor was also Glassos, in the form of 12″ x 12″ tiles. For the shower floor we used Glassos 2″x 2″ hexagon shaped tiles. The final hard surface material feature in the bathroom is the custom Cyan Green stone wall above the vanity. There is a lot of variation in the stone which makes the mirrored medicine cabinets really pop. The sconce has a Brushed Nickel finish as does the hardware from Kallista.
With all of the hard surfaces in a bathroom a fabric window treatment is one way to soften the space. The cornice and roman shades in both the bathroom and bedroom were a custom designed and a collaboration with Urban Loft Window Treatments. The cranberry color throughout the bathroom and bedroom is a great accent to the various gray tones. The end product is better than I had imagined when creating the floor plan. What was once an ordinary bedroom with a full bathroom is now transformed into a stylish retreat worthy of “Master Suite” status.
