Livin’ large in this new Family Room

This client reached out to me after moving in to a new house because she wasn’t sure how to incorporate the existing fireplace into the main living area. The room was an expansive space, at about 600 sq ft, with twenty foot ceilings and a fireplace with the size and scale to match. In this case, less would have definitely been more. The fireplace dwarfed everything in the room, therefore, in order to create a more comfortable and living space, I knew this is where I would start.

I scaled the mantle way down to a height and width that made sense and matched some of the other mantles in the house, designed custom millwork with a small bead detail that continued around the entire room, painted the new fireplace wall a different color to show separation between the dining and living area, and added extra large decorative lighting.
